Shopping
When it comes to offers everyone likes a shopping bargain. There are bargains to be had at supermarkets such as Carrefour and Auchan, plus factory outlets for clothing from your favourite designers, and homeware like Le Crueset. Or, have fun discovering the many markets, especially at Christmas, and places for bric-á-brac and antiques. Of course when it comes to wine you couldn’t be in a better place!
Shopping in Dunkirk itself is well worth checking out. They say there are around 400 shops in the centre of town, the main streets being Boulevard Alexandre III, Rue Clémenceau, Boulevard Sainte Barbe and Rue Nationale.
There’s also a new shopping mall at The Pole Marine, which has a cinema and many restaurants.
Up the coast at Malo les bains, you can enjoy the outdoor markets at Place du General de Gaulle on Saturdays and Wednesdays and at Place Turenne on Tuesday mornings.
Look into the local tourist pass as it provides free or discounted entrance to over 20 attractions in the area as well as access to free public transport and a shopping voucher worth 5 euros.
A little further away is Lille – it’ll take about 45 minutes to drive there. Great bargains can be found at the Wazemmes market all year round, including antiques and bric-á-brac, and there's Europe's largest street market at the Braderie in September.
Euralille shopping center is home to around 150 stores – it’s next to Lille Europe station, and Faubourg des Modes has many more shops. If you like designer outlets you can pick up a bargain at Roubaix at 228 AvenueAlfred Motte.
Of course some people will want to stay close to Dunkirk port. If this is the case then Auchan Hypermarket is a good place to head for.
